Volunteer

At Sandy Bear we are lucky to have amazing volunteers who support our children and young people in a variety of ways, from assisting at the Family Support groups, raising much needed funds for the charity, to sending out teddy bears to bereaved youngsters, there is a role for everyone. On this page you will find our current volunteer opportunities for across Wales. We like to build a long-term meaningful relationship with our volunteers, and therefore we only advise for new volunteers when we have a specific role.

If you don’t see a role that matches your requirements, please join our Talent Community, and we can match your skills and experience to our volunteering roles.

We look forward to hearing from you

Volunteer

I chose to volunteer with Sandy Bear after seeing the incredible support they provided to a friend of mine. It has been such a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Who Can Volunteer?

We are looking for people who want to make a difference to children and young people. You don’t have to have experience of supporting young people in difficult circumstances, we can help you with that. We just need you to be friendly, approachable and understanding.

If you want to make a real difference to children and young people in your local area, we would love to welcome you into our community.

Current Volunteering Roles:

Fundraising is a vital part of our work to ensure we can support all children who are referred to Sandy Bear services. This can take many forms and we are keen to work with individuals to ensure they are able to enjoy volunteering with us.
There are many aspects to fundraising, some that require a lot of research and information gathering, others where speaking to people plays a key focus and everything in between. Some involve practical support, others can be carried out from the comfort of your own home.
Whether you have a few set hours a week/month, available just for one or two events, or able to work very locally, or able to travel; we would be delighted to have you onboard.

Our work relies on the support and close connections within a variety of settings, especially schools. With clear outcomes showing that our work supports young people to engage better with, and achieve higher educational attainment when they are able to talk through and understand the grief they have following the death of someone close to them.
Whether you have a few set hours a week/month, available just for one or two events, able to work very locally, or able to travel; we would be delighted to have you onboard.
We are keen to set up a network of school bereavement champions who can shout about the work of Sandy Bear, but also support us as a local contact point for those within your schools or wider community who may need some advice, support or need someone to turn to.
The role can be flexible from being a point of contact and to signpost to our services, or to take a more active voluntary role in supporting those young people you encounter. (Training provided!)

Our core activity is to support children and young people, so we are keen to ensure that young people have an active voice within our organisation from how we deliver support, to letting others know about Sandy Bear; to advocating on our behalf to raise the profile of bereavement support to organisations, businesses, and even the government.
Whether you have a few set hours a week/month, available just for one or two events, or able to work very locally, or able to travel; we would be delighted to have you onboard.
We are keen to set up and hold regular youth focus groups face to face or online to ensure we listen and respond to the needs of young people.
The list below is just an overview of support where you could make a huge difference. Please do chat to us about what you might be able to bring to the team we can be flexible in our approach.

Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity are looking for individuals to volunteer with children, young people and their families following a bereavement.

The aim of the role is to help children, young people and families to develop resilience to cope with their grief. Tasks will vary dependant on the needs of the children and families.

The charity will provide full training as well as ensuring appropriate supervision is to hand to support all volunteers during their time working with the charity.
